About Live Well With Parkinson's
Dr. Galit Kleiner-Fisman, creator of Live Well with Parkinson’s, is the Medical Director of the Jeff and Diane Ross Movement Disorders Clinic, and an Assistant Professor of Neurology at the University of Toronto, in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
The Jeff and Diane Ross Movement Disorders Clinic is a collaborative venture between Baycrest Health Sciences and the Assistive Technology Clinic (ATC). ATC is a comprehensive Centre that provides medical, rehabilitative and technological services to people with neurological disorders, and is housed on two sites (Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre and Baycrest).
The Jeff and Diane Ross Movement Disorders Clinic, based at the Baycrest ATC site, is staffed by an interdisciplinary allied health team including a physiotherapist, occupational therapist, speech-language pathologist, health psychologist, pharmacist, Parkinson’s specialist nurse and a team of administrators and research assistants. The mission of our program focuses on providing ongoing support and strategies to allow those we serve to continue “living well” throughout the Parkinson’s disease continuum.
In order to actualize our vision of providing reliable, simple, and comprehensive information to the Parkinson’s community, ATC, and The Jeff and Diane Ross Movement Disorders Clinic partnered with the George Brown College (GBC) Applied Research Program to develop a Live Well with Parkinson’s website. Several divisions, of GBC were involved in developing the website and its contents. Food Innovation & Research Studio (FIRSt) in the Centre for Hospitality and Culinary Arts created the recipes for the protein redistribution diet; business analysis students and faculty created the medication scheduling tool and “back end “of the website, and animation students and faculty created the video animations to demonstrate challenging concepts.
Content areas in the Live Well with Parkinson’s website were identified by our clients at the Jeff and Diane Ross Movement Disorders Clinic. The information provided in the website aims to impart knowledge regarding Parkinson’s disease to the general public and medical and allied health professionals.
“Live Well with Parkinson’s, Inc.” and George Brown College would like to thank the following people and organizations for their generous support without which the website would not have been possible.
